Gary has over 15 years of experience as an actuary and has held executive and leadership roles in the insurance industry since 2004. His specific areas of expertise include operational management, data analytics, corporate strategy, actuarial pricing and reserving and the analysis and negotiation of complex reinsurance commutations. Gary began his career as an Actuarial Analyst with Aon Benfield in 2003 and joined Catalina in 2008 as part of the acquisition of Quanta, which he joined in 2004. Prior to his current position as Group Chief Operating Officer, he served as COO, North America from 2014-18, where he was responsible for overseeing the due diligence, integration and ongoing strategy of various acquired entities. 

Prior roles at Catalina include Global Head of Commutations, Senior VP, Head of Reinsurance and Reserving Actuary for various entities worldwide. He has also held CEO positions at various Catalina regulated entities in the U.S. and Bermuda, including Alea North America Insurance Company, SPARTA Insurance Company, National American Insurance Company of California, Danielson National Insurance Company and Catalina General Insurance Company where he has built and maintained strong regulatory relationships in the various jurisdictions. Gary is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). 

He also frequently teaches graduate level courses in Statistics and Big Data Analytics as Associate Adjunct Professor at the New York University Stern School of Business. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Iowa and a MBA in Quantitative Finance from NYU Stern.
