Group Chief Executive Officer
Phillipp joined Catalina Re in May 2020 as Group Chief Investment Officer before becoming Group CEO in 2024. He has over 30 years’ experience in the insurance asset management and banking industry. Previously, he held several senior positions including CIO, CEO and Chairman of the board at MEAG and has held roles at UniCredit Group and Bayerische Vereinsbank.
Phillip is a long-standing member of the Investment Committee of the German Insurance Association (GDV) and the board of Deutsches Aktieninstitut (DAI). He holds a degree from Ludwig Maximilian Universität, Munich.
Group Chief Financial Officer
Derrick joined Catalina Re with over 20 years of experience advising and leading finance activities in the insurance and reinsurance sectors. He previously served as CFO of AXA XL’s global reinsurance business and spent 8 years in public accounting with PwC. He has managed finance operations, structured (re)insurance and capital markets transactions, led strategic investments, managed mergers and acquisitions, and handled related integration activities.
Derrick holds a B.A. in Economics and Business Administration from Ursinus College and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Associate in Reinsurance (ARe).
Group Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Legal Officer
Andrew joined Catalina Re in August 2022 with 25 years’ professional experience. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary at CapSpecialty. He spent 13 years at The Hartford, most recently as Deputy General Counsel. Prior to that, he was lead counsel for IBM’s mid-range mainframes business and began his legal career in the mergers & acquisitions practice of White & Case in New York.
Andrew is admitted to the bars of New York and Connecticut and serves on the boards of the Hartford Public Library and Capitol Region Development Authority. He is also a US Army veteran, holding a bachelor’s degree from Boston University and graduating cum laude with a law degree from Pace University.
Group Chief Risk Officer
Andrew joined Catalina in January 2023, bringing extensive insurance expertise. He began as an actuarial consultant in 1996 and has served as Chief Risk Officer since 2011. He is renowned for designing and implementing cutting-edge risk management frameworks that drive competitive advantage.
Andrew is an Associate of the Institute of Risk Managers and a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries. Andrew has a passion for promoting mental wellbeing and leveraging data, analytics, and technology in insurance.
Group Chief Actuary and Chief Executive Officer Catalina General Insurance
John joined Catalina Re in July 2020 with having held several senior positions within the insurance industry. He previously served as Chief Risk Officer for CGI and Senior Manager/Head of Non-Life Actuarial & Risk Services at E&Y Bermuda. John has presented on risk and reserving topics at conferences including the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers, and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK.
John is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and graduated from Dublin City University with a BSc in Financial and Actuarial Mathematics and an MSc in Finance and Capital Markets.
Group Chief Investment Officer
Orla joined Catalina Re in March 2024, bringing her experience in advising insurance companies and pensions on investments. Previously, Orla led balance sheet management in Apollo Insurance Solutions Group International, Insurance Structuring in European Markets for Citi and acted as an Investment Manager for Legal & General. She is a qualified actuary specialising in Finance and Investment and attained qualification as a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary.
Orla has a B.A. in Actuarial & Financial Studies from University College Dublin.
Group Human Resources Director
Romina joined Catalina Re in October 2022 with over 25 years of international human resources experience in the financial services industry. She is recognized as a global HR leader, driving business growth and performance for FTSE 250 brands and multi-billion-pound finance firms with up to 8000 employees. Romina is known for her pioneering HR strategies, providing commercial solutions at the Board level and guiding complex organizational transformations through people-driven change.
Group Chief Information and Transformation Officer
Leon joined Catalina Re in October 2022, bringing over 20 years of global financial services experience spanning insurance, credit, and wealth management. He is renowned for his expertise in business transformation, corporate restructuring, and technology leadership. Leon has successfully delivered initiatives yielding $100s of millions in benefits to corporate financial services. Results-oriented, he values collaboration and diversity as keys to success. Leon holds a master’s degree in engineering.
Chief Executive Officer, Catalina Life
Christian brings over 20 years of financial services industry experience spanning banking, insurance, and asset management to Catalina Re. Previously, he played a key role in restructuring Old Mutual Plc. Earlier in his career he was also a partner in a strategy consulting firm specializing in Financial Services, leading complex, multi-jurisdictional projects. He holds a CFA charter and is a graduate of LSE and NYU Stern School of Business.
Chief Executive Officer UK
Graeme joined Catalina Re in May 2017 as UK Chief Financial Officer before becoming UK CEO in October 2021. He brings over 35 years of financial services experience, including five years with Suncorp Group in Australia and 14 years at Aviva plc, both in a variety of senior finance positions. Graeme qualified with Ernst & Young in 1993 and has audit experience in Australia and the UK. Furthermore, he is a chartered accountant and member of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand.
Chief Executive Officer US
Luann joined Catalina Re in July 2022 with over 30 years of insurance experience, including working as managing director for PwC’s US insurance run-off practice. She is renowned for developing innovative legacy and restructuring solutions. Luann is recognized as a national leader for developing insurance business transfer legislation, the first restructuring tool to provide finality for legacy liabilities. In 2018, Luann was named as Insurance Person of the Year by AIRROC.
Chief Executive Officer Asia Pacific
Tek Jun (“TJ”) joined Catalina Re in 2020 with the acquisition of Asia Capital Re and was appointed CEO of Asia Capital Ee in February 2024. TJ has almost 20 years of experience in financial services spanning banking, insurance and reinsurance. He has been with Asia Capital Re since 2015 and prior to that, held roles at American International Group and BNP Paribas. TJ is also a CFA Charterholder.
Chair
Dr. Manfred Puffer has served as a Senior Advisor to Apollo since October 2008. From 2006 to 2008, he was a senior managing director in the Financial Institutions Group of Bear Stearns International, Head of Germany, Austria, and Eastern Europe, and a member of the European Executive Committee. From 2002 to 2005, he was a member of the managing board of WestLB AG and Head of the Investment Bank, Fixed Income, Equities, and Structured Finance. Currently, Dr. Puffer is a member of the supervisory board of Infineon Technologies AG.Dr. Puffer holds a Ph.D. and an MBA from the University of Vienna.

Mr. Humphreys is a Senior Principal at Apollo, having joined in 2008. Prior to that time, Mr. Humphreys was with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in the Financial Institutions Mergers and Acquisitions team based in London. Mr. Humphreys graduated from University College London with a BSc in Economics.
Director
Mr. Lohr is a Senior Partner at Apollo Private Equity, having joined in 2007. Prior to that time, Mr. Lohr was a founding partner at Infinity Point LLC, Apollo’s joint venture partner for the financial services industry, since 2005. Mr. Lohr also spent eight years in financial services investment banking at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York. Mr. Lohr received his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and graduated from the University of Karlsruhe with a joint master’s degree in economics and engineering.
Independent Director
Jo has over 30 years of experience in the reinsurance sector. Since May 2019 she has been Head of Finance at Tangency Capital. Previously, she worked at AlphaCat Managers Ltd. for six years, most recently as CFO. Before that, she consulted for Expertise Ltd., advising fund administration and reinsurance companies and serving as interim CFO. Jo is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a member of the Institute of Directors, and holds a degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Brighton and a Certificate in Company Direction.
Independent Director
Mr. Cunningham graduated from Cambridge with an MA in Natural Sciences and became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries. In 1982, he became Director of Willis Faber Advisory Services, leading their International Actuarial and investment consulting practice. In 1990, he joined LCP as a Partner, overseeing international consulting and strategic direction and advising major global companies on financial liabilities and assets. In 2008, he became a Non-Executive Director at Liberty Holdings, serving as Chairman of the Actuarial Committee and member of the Audit and Risk committees until stepping down in 2020.
Senior Independent Director
Mr. Sorell was Executive Vice President and Advisor to the CEO at Guardian Life Insurance Company, after 17 years as Chief Investment Officer. He also held roles such as Senior Managing Director of Guardian’s Fixed Income department and President of The Park Avenue Portfolio® Family of Mutual Funds. Before joining Guardian in 1994, he held several positions at Fund American Enterprises, AIG Investment Advisors, Drexel Burnham Lambert, and Kidder, Peabody & Company. Mr. Sorell holds an MBA from New York University, a BA from Colgate University, and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. He serves on the board of the Forman School, a college preparatory school for students with learning differences.
Independent Director
Mr. Harris has over 25 years of experience in risk management and financial services. He served as CEO, President, and board member of Montpelier Re Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: MRH), and Chairman of the Board for Blue Capital Reinsurance Holdings (NYSE: BCRH). His prior roles include Chief Underwriting Officer, Chief Risk Officer, and Chief Actuary at Montpelier, managing a risk consulting practice and holding underwriting and actuarial management positions.
Mr. Harris is a National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Board Leadership Fellow and holds designations as a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, Chartered Financial Analyst, and Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter. Mr. Harris holds an MBA in Financial Management and a BSc in Mathematics, having studied at the U.S. Military Academy and the University of North Texas.
Independent Director
Mr Pestcoe has over 35 years in the insurance industry spanning P&C and Life sectors, having held a diverse range of executive roles. He recently retired as CEO of Langhorne Re and remains on the board.
Previously, Mr. Pestcoe held roles at Partner Reinsurance Group including CEO Life & Health, Chief Investment Officer, Head of Strategic Ventures, and Chief Risk and Actuarial Officer. He represented PartnerRe on multiple boards and now serves as an independent director and Chair of the Investment Committee for Hamilton Insurance Group, and Chair of the Audit Committee for Minever Intelligence.
Mr. Pestcoe is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, with extensive experience leading global teams in risk management, actuarial pricing, catastrophe modeling, reserving, and capital modeling.
